One of the most useful methods to sort games is by how many pyramids they require to play. The most basic unit of pyramids is a "Trio" (one pyramid of each size, all of the same color). With the advent of the [[Pyramid Arcade]], most new games are likely to measure pyramids in Trios. However, historically, games have been be divided into two broad groups: those requiring five-color "sets" (5 Trios, each of a different color) and those needing full, monochrome "stashes" (5 Trios, all of the ''same'' color).
