Thanks for pointing out the ambiguity, after rereading I found a few other changes that should make my intentions a bit more clear.
hmmm...
After playing a few times I realised a point of strategy for this game I had not previously thought about. Capping pieces on your own end of the board. I had added the lateral move to cap larger pieces on the opponents end of the board , thus forcing them to move the smaller piece first and buying some time. I hadn't thought of capping larger pieces on my own end of the board. This prevents my opponent from moving my larger pieces btoward their end of the board. Wheeeee.
