Playing cards can be any cards used for playing games, but the most common usage refers to the set of 52 cards used for many different games, including Rummy, Poker and Snap. Because the same equipment can be used to play many different games, playing cards are a good example of a game system.

A deck of these cards consists of four different suits - diamonds, clubs, spades and hearts - with each suit having 13 cards: an Ace, numbers 2 to 10, and the "court cards", which are a Jack, a Queen and a King.

There are several Icehouse games that use playing cards.
