From Looney Pyramid Games Wiki

Movement is a collective category for mechanics that involve movement of pieces. This category may be useful to distinguish between games that have movement and that don't, rather than to be very specific about the type of movement, which could become subcategories.

Here are some examples of different types of movement.

  • The easiest is grid movement, where the grid is often dictated by the board, such as in Hextris.
  • There is also point-to-point movement, where the pieces can only move to places that are connected through lines or rules that determine "connected". An example is Homeworlds.
  • Games that don't use movement include Zendo.
